November lessons on Gratitude

Hello PG families!

It's hard to believe we're halfway into November. I apologize for the lack of updates but it's been a busy start to the year!

This month, we're focusing on the theme of gratitude in counseling lessons. It's a wonderful time of year with several holidays coming up to stop and think about the value in having family, health, friends, an education, etc. I have visited several classrooms and read the Todd Parr book, "We are Thankful." After reading the book, we discussed being thankful for non-material things (i.e. nature, clean water, having access to a school, our home, clothing, food, etc). We also discussed ways we can show others that we are thankful and the importance of gratitude. Several students contributed very thoughtful ideas and we made lists. In 1st grade, we then made a gratitude chain. Each student filled out a slip of paper and wrote down/drew three or more things they are thankful for in their own lives. We put the chain together and it is now hanging outside of the first grade classroom.
